Remember the good old days when you returned your pop bottle at the corner grocer and received a nickel back?

Me neither.

But today, in honor of Earth Day, you can bring three plastic bottles to any Disney Store, and you’ll receive a free gift while supplies last. Rumor has it the gift is a water bottle (the reusable kind – good for Mother Earth). But who knows? Whatever it is, it’s free, it’s Disney and it’s for a good cause.

Free Disney Dining Offer

Sure, the amusements are one-of-a-kind, the theming is out of this world and interaction with the characters is the stuff of a child’s dream. But if you ask my husband, the best part of Disney is the dining, and he had his priority seating choices made long before his 90 day window.

So what’s better than Disney dining? Well, how about Disney dining…for free? Yep, that’s the offer on the table (pun intended). If you book a full price WDW vacation checking in between August 16 and October 3 (with some restrictions), you can upgrade to the Magic
Your Way Plus Dining plan for the same price as the plain old Magic Your Way package.

Bottom line: this deal will save the average family of four (who are those people?) $101.96 per day. That’s a lot of souvenir money, doncha know?

The small print: your vacation package must include a three day hotel stay and a one day (at least) theme park ticket. And you must book before 6/21/09, using the appropriate code: RYH. If you want to upgrade to the Deluxe Dining Plan (which gives you three sitdown or counter service meals a day, two snacks, an appetizer with table service meals and a refillable mug) you can do so for $32 per adult per night and $10 per night for the kiddies. Headed Downtown (Disney)

I just love Downtown Disney. That may not sound like a ringing endorsement, but believe me, it is. I was born completely void of a shopping gene. I abhor malls, and consider Christmas shopping a success if I can do the entire thing online. I hate hate hate to shop. (Do you get the picture?)

But I love Downtown Disney. I love the gigantic Lego displays, I love the pin collectors perched outside (where else?) Disney’s Pin Traders, I even love the huge collection of Mr. Potato Head parts you can cram into a box for a reasonable price at Once Upon A Toy. Downtown Disney isn’t just shopping…it’s an experience.

And, my friends, there are bargains to be had. First there’s the parking – which is absolutely free! You can leave your car in the lot and shop (or eat or play) without paying a cent. Where else in Disney can you say that?

The second bargain – food! Oh, sure, there are some pricey (and really delicious) eateries in Downtown Disney, but my favorite of all is so reasonable I’m tempted to keep it a secret so it doesn’t get too crowded. I’m talking about the Earl of Sandwich, a must-stop for our family every single Disney vacation. (Seriously, forget the “run to Dumbo” advice and run to Earl instead!) The sandwiches are insane, and all hot sandwiches are $5.75. Yes, you read that right. So if you’re tired of the burger and chicken nugget lunches, head to the Earl…just save an All-American for me.

Spring Break At Disney

Forget Daytona – the real happening place for spring break this year is Orlando and Walt Disney World! And, if you book through February 28 (a mere five days left!) you can get a break on your budget too. You can stay at select Disney Resorts (read: the value hotels) for as little as $74 a night for Sunday through Thursday stays in March. And that rock bottom rate will get you the same high quality magic you can find at the bigger resorts – for a lot more money.

Let’s face it, if you’re at the Disney parks, you’re not going to be spending a lot of time in your room anyway. Save money by booking one of these deals – then treat yourself to a great dinner at Le Cellier!

I just learned that Disney passholders get a sweet deal this month. If you show your pass and ID at the information desk in the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney, you get a lanyard and two exclusive passholder pins – absolutely free! And as if the deal needed to be any sweeter, you’ll also be handed a coupon for ten percent off your purchases that day. That’s in addition to the ten percent discount passholders get every day!

But hurry! This deal started on the first, and will end when supplies run out.

AAA Discount

We never seem to be in a position to take advantage of the great deals (like those going on now!) but we do manage to find discounts. One great investment we made was in a AAA membership.

In addition to all those great automotive-type benefits, AAA members get a discount on rooms in Disney World resorts almost year-round. The savings vary, but usually run between 10 and 20 percent of your lodging. That’s a meal or two in the parks, doncha know?

In 2009, travelers in the value season will receive 15% off their room in Value, Deluxe and Deluxe villa resorts and 20% in Moderates or the Ft. Wilderness cabins and campsites. During regular season, AAA members can look forward to 10% off if staying in Deluxe or Deluxe Villa resorts and 10-15% off at Value, Moderates, or the Ft. Wilderness sites. In peak season, the discount is 10% off in all resorts.
There is no discount in the holiday season.

You can book an AAA discount through the Auto Club or directly from Disney at (407)W-DISNEY. Just ask about the AAA discount for the dates of your trip, and have your card handy.

Disney Extends Buy 4 Get 3 Deal

Thought it was too late to book one of those great “buy four days, get three free” vacation deals at Walt Disney World? Guess again.

The promotion – which originally included dates through April – has now been extended to travel until 8/15. That’s right – the Mouse is hedging his bets even through the summer, traditionally the peak season for the parks. Of course, there are caveats: you must purchase a non-discounted four night, four day stay package, including park tickets, in select WDW resorts. But hey, you get to add three extra days – and the park tix are included!

If you planned a summer trip, here’s your chance to stay a week – for the cost of days. Book this great deal with your travel agent or online, but remember rooms go fast, and you need to book before March 29.
